In the year 1998, the senate of the R.C. Diocese of Kottar decided to form a committee to organize and to mobilize the human resources of the lay people of the Kottar Diocese, to establish higher educational institutions, like Engineering college, Nursing College, Arts and Science College and Medical college. On 05.05.2001, a Committee was formed to take necessary steps to get the approval from the government to start a Nursing college at Chunkankadai. It was to be the combined effort of Thiruthuvapuram and Mulagumoodu vicariates.
On 26.10.2003, the first inspection was conducted by Director of Medical Education at the Animation centre,Bishop’s House, Nagercoil for the Government permission.
Realising the immediate need for the infrastructure for the nursing college, foundation StoneLaying Ceremony was held on 12.04.2004 which was presided over by the Bishop Most.Rev. A. Leon Dharma Raj (Late) at Chunkankadai. Theinitial fund for the college building was mobilized and supported by the peopleof Mulagumoodu and Thiruthuapuramvicariates. This was historical indeed.
Eachvicariate pastoral council, visited all the respectiveparishes and fixed a reasonable amount based on the financial strength andpopulation of the parish. All the parish priests and parish councilsco-operated very well along with the Vicar Forane.
On 17.10.2006, the college receivedthe Certificate of Registration from the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University,Chennai -32.
On 04.10.2006, we received therecognition from the Tamil Nadu Nurses and Midwives Council, Chennai.
TheInauguration of the college was held on 25.10.2006. KavignerKanimozhi was the Chief Guest of the function, andthe Most. Rev. Leon Dharmaraj(Late) Bishop, the president.
IndianNursing Council also gave its’ approval to the college on 26.10.2006.
The classes for theI year B.Sc. (Nursing) students started on 01.11.2006.
Finally, the college received theaffiliation order from the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical Universityon 26.12.2006.
Conferment of Minority Status to thecollege for a period of five years from the academic year 2007 – 2008 wasissued on 10.09.2007.
As per the statutory norm, thenursing college should establish its own hospital with 150 beds before 2011. Thestone laying ceremony for St. Xavier’s Multi Specialityhospital was held on 06.07.2009 and Most Rev. Peter Remigus,Bishop of Kottar graced the function.
To promotehigher education we started Post Basic B.Sc. (Nursing), a two year degree programme from the academic year 2009 – 2010.
On01.06.2011, M.Sc. Nursing 2 years programme with all5 specialities with a total of 25 seats was started.
We have gotrecognition to start Ph.D Nursing for Child HealthNursing department under the Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R.Medical University, Chennai from the academic year 2017-2018.
Our collegeprovides special scholarships to poor Catholic students of Thirutuapuramand Mulagumoodu vicariates. 10 catholic meritoriouspoor students are the beneficiaries. We also help the students to get theavailable scholarships,

A Global funding project (GFATM)supported by the Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi and CBCI started thetraining at our nursing college since 2008. We have completed the 5 yearstraining for registered nurses on HIV and AIDs. Now we are in the second phaseof the project to start the Tuberculosis training.
· To establish 300 bedded multispecialty hospital with amedical college.
